Abstraction and Depth of Field

Abstraction Definition: something that is visionary and unrealistic. In photography, you use abstraction by focusing on pattern, shape, texture, form, and color. often, the whole object is not able to be seen.

Examples of abstract photography:

Ginny: City Lights Bokeh
The shallow depth of field they used for this makes this photo a good example of abstraction. The circles of confusion that are made using a low aperture really make this image effective.

Steve Hodgson: Abstract
This is another effective example of using shallow depth of field to capture an abstract image.

Tom Hilton
I really like this example of using shallow depth of field to capture an abstract image. the focus on the water and the low aperture was an effective choice for this image.
